Taking Flight make bold, unusual theatre productions with Deaf, disabled, non-disabled and neurodiverse performers. Their work tours Wales and beyond and they often find themselves in out of the way places, as well as traditional theatre venues.

Taking Flight’s mission is to smash down barriers to participating in theatre and to constantly push the boundaries of creative access. They’re committed to driving forward equal representation of Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people in theatre by levelling the stage.

The charity’s aim is to alter the arts landscape in Wales and beyond by challenging others to think inclusively. Their work challenges attitudes within the theatre sector in Wales, moving access from a tick-box exercise to an early consideration for growing number of organisations. Equality and diversity are at the heart of everything they do. Many of their productions are targeted at family audiences, offering audiences including those with access requirements the opportunity to experience productions with integrated creative access and to see themselves represented on stage.

Alongside their productions, Taking Flight run Wales’ only youth theatre for Deaf and hard of hearing young people, development opportunities for Deaf, disabled and neurodiverse creatives, as well as disability awareness training and access consultancy for the sector.
