Family Arts first virtual drop-in session ☕

Join us for our first ever Family Arts drop-in session on Thursday 10th December 2020 10.30am – 12.30pm.

Grab a cup of tea, settle in and join the conversation around boosting family engagement in challenging circumstances.

We’ll be joined by some of our award-winning cultural organisations and local Family Arts Ambassadors to offer ideas, share best practice and explore ways to connect in future family arts developments.

Vicky Armstrong, Dundee Contemporary Arts

Vicky is an art therapist and a researcher. She is currently doing a collaborative PhD with Dundee Contemporary Arts and the University of Dundee Psychology department looking at the benefits of early art making for infants and their caregivers. She runs participative art sessions and art therapy groups for 0-3s and during covid restrictions has been reaching families with art boxes and ideas to use at home.

In 2020 Dundee Contemporary Arts won the Fantastic for Families award for Audience Impact.

 

Sarah Derrick, Head of Learning, Dundee Contemporary Arts

Sarah is a committed and innovative designer and deliverer of creative learning opportunities with a specialism in visual arts education. She has over thirty five years’ experience of planning, delivering, developing and evaluating museum and gallery education models/strategy, working with diverse organisations as Creative Scotland, Tate Gallery London, Royal Albert Memorial Museum (Exeter), Kettle’s Yard (Cambridge), Glasgow 1999 Year of Architecture and Design,  Kelvingrove Museum & Art Gallery, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, Ikon Gallery Birmingham and SPACEX Gallery and Studios (Exeter). Since 1999 Sarah has grown staffing at DCA from one to a team of four permanent posts. She is responsible for the set up, funding and development of a broad ranging community, education, interpretation and outreach programme supported by artists’ training for this innovative purpose built visual arts centre.

Katie Cassels, Royal Museums Greenwich

Katie is the Families and Young People Manager for Royal Museums Greenwich. A top-10 UK visitor attraction, Royal Museums Greenwich is home to the Royal Observatory Greenwich, the iconic historic sailing ship Cutty Sark, the National Maritime Museum and the Queen’s House Art Gallery. The Family Programme uses collections to encourage encounter with other cultures, to start conversations, and to develop confidence.
